A Legacy of Herbal Excellence

My interest in herbs started in my early 20s when my landlord planted a small garden in my yard. It was all herbs used to flavor her homemade sauce; I watched every day as the small plants matured and individualized. I loved to pet them; the fragrances were intoxicating, and I took small tastes until I learned each name by the smell and flavor. At that time, I had no idea herbs would become one of the great loves of my life.

Sandy’s Herb Gardens and/or herbal recipes have been featured in Self Magazine, New Yorker Magazine, McCalls Magazine and Venture Magazine.. Her herb gardens were also featured in the beautiful coffee table book Herbs, by Tolley and Mead and Readers Digest’s Book of Herbs.
Sandy has authored 4 books on herbs, flowers and fresh berries. The Raspberry Book and Tea Room Recipes are recipe books while Everlasting Flowers is instructional on how to grow flowers for drying. An Herbal Primer is a basic book for growing herbs in the home garden. We are expecting a reprint of Everlasting Flowers to be out in February 2025.

My Journey

The dream started growing in my mind to have an herb farm where I could grow a lot of herbs and flowers. I knew many farmers at the time who suffered because of the instability of farming. I thought if I grew a luxury crop, maybe I could succeed.

I was lucky to be gifted an acre of land to start a real herb farm. The acre was just enough space to have many demonstration gardens, so people could visit and see how the herbs grew, as well as a large field of flowers and herbs. I shared all my new knowledge at Sunday tea parties, which was so much fun. I loved impressing people with the “grace” that herbs provided in my life–the perfect union of function and beauty. I added a small greenhouse and grew about 2000 plants for sale and planting each year. Combined with reading every herbal I could get my hands on, I came to know herbs very well. I loved the craft aspect and would putter in my shop, making potpourris, culinary blends, floral arrangements, and wreaths, looking for the best use for each herb.

All that was 50 years ago, and herbs have been my friends ever since. Growing, concocting, and preserving herbs and flowers have been a mainstay of my life. One that has balanced me during troublesome times and has always added a feeling of luxury to my home and lifestyle. When you realize the size of a seed and all the goodness that can come of it, it’s amazing and humbling.

I hope you enjoy my inventory of products offered for sale. Try something new, delight your senses, and feel the grace.
